January 2010 Visiting Teaching Message link

Happy New Year! Isn't it hard to believe that Christmas is over and we are already in the New Year? Time flies much too quickly but the great thing we have left is the memories.

Hey.... are you looking for the January 2010 Visiting Teaching message? You can find it at this link... http://www.lds.org/library/display/0,4945,2044-1-5025-1,00.html Since the message is on Becoming self reliant, I would love to hear from you, your thoughts about this. How are you going to become more self reliant? Please comment below, and remember your comments would be great helps in your discussion with the women you visit teach. You can also email me your thoughts at ktgauger@gmail.com and I will post your comments below. I will first start off with a couple of thoughts of my own.....

HOW CAN I BECOME MORE SELF RELIANT?
" In Relief Society yesterday, one of our R.S. Presidency asked us what kinds of thing would we like to learn to become more self reliant? Some of the comments were as follows:

Learn to sew

Learn how to do home canning

Learn all about couponing

Learn how to make and bake bread and
about wheat and how to use it, grind it, and such.

I could only remember these, but there were many other great suggestions that were given. Self reliance can really help a family to save money, as when you can do it yourself, the extra money that you would pay to have it done can go directly back into your own pocket. That extra is a base for saving for other things that are needed, or to just give extra money to live on. Who doesn't' need a little extra money to live on in the current economic times in which we live
NOW FOR YOUR COMMENTS:

"I learned to give haircuts when I went many years ago with an old boyfriend to get his missionary haircut. That was the first time I had ever stepped inside a barber shop. I watched carefully and then went home and asked my mom if I could give the next haircuts on my brothers. My Mother was very happy to let me, and with practice, I ended up being the barber in my family, and when I married and began having my own children, I can't tell you how many haircuts I gave without having to pay someone else to do them for me. When my children were in Junior High and High school, they too would bring their friends to our house so that I could give them free haircuts. I have wondered how many thousands of dollars I have saved my family in the haircuts and trims I have given over the past 25 years." Katie G.

"I have decided to pull out my sewing machiene that has been nicely stored for years, and I am going to start sewing again, starting with an easy pattern for lounging pants, or pj bottoms. I am going to have surgery this coming week and will be left with the use of only 1 hand and arm for at least a month. I won't be able to snap, or button so I thought I would design some cute PJ bottoms that had elastic waists, and make them. I have today to do it, so I had better get sewing!" (note... these would make great Christmas gifts for an entire family... you know making matching PJ bottoms for the whole family. What a great family photo that would also make!" Katie G.

Once again... "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" Lets all resolve to do our Visiting Teaching every month! If you want a little more push for yourself, join the "Extraordinary Visiting Teachers group" on Facebook.
